Postcard from a while ago
Mom/Tom
In the 'old town' area of Berea, KY, there are all sorts of cool, hip artsy shops as well as a park with three colored hands. I'm not quite sure what they symbolize but they sure are beautiful. The old town area has many resident sculptures and other 'hands on' artist - not much in terms of paintings. I think KY is know more for crafts arts. I'm in Sonora, KY. Love, Paul
To Tom - June 1
Postcard to Tom: mailed June 1, 2010
Tom,
So, tho other day, I happened upon the Maker's Mark distillery. Definitely, ironic, considering the vast majority of beer/alcohol on this trip hasa been mostly water [Yuengling has been high class!].
Love, Paul
PS I brought your fribee but no one likes to play :(
Notes from Mom
In reviewing Paul's blog, I see no comments on the events within the group.
Dogs have been an issue - especially in KY, chased members of the group:
Paul talked about being chased by two big pit bulls - pretty scary. His technique is to get off bike, walk, talk firmly to dogs and they have left him alone - no bites yet. Others spray air from pumps or water from water bottles. I am not sure how many are using mace, if any.
Paul called me last Sunday, 5/30, and filled me in on the latest incident:
The group leader, age 65, was injured, while reaching for his water bottle, in KY, as he was being attacked by a dog, to spray at dog. He fell, broke collar bone and one rib, quite bruised. He has been driving along side but will take a month to heal. Not sure how it is all going to work out. Paul sounds committed as is most of group.
I talked to Paul briefly on Tuesday 6/1. The group is continuing on for the most part but two people [married couple] just dropped out [apparently with no discussion with the group] so down to 2 women. Potentially, the dropouts can get most of their their money back since the group is not really following contract with injured leader.
